Cultural spots in Liberia

• Museo del Sabanero

  A really beautiful place; hours change often, so we recommend checking Google before visiting.

• Parque Mario Cañas Ruiz & Iglesia Inmaculada Concepción

  Liberia's central park, facing the Iglesia Inmaculada Concepción. Cultural and recreational activities take place here, especially on special dates like Christmas. Having a churchill in the park is a classic (shaved ice with condensed milk, powdered milk, syrup and ice cream). Between the church and the park stands the big LIBERIA sign, where tourists take the city's signature photo.

• Calle Real

  Walk along Calle Real to see the last original adobe and bahareque colonial houses. Some are now restaurants, like Posada Real (Gluten Free Menu) and Guelo Sushi.

• Ermita de la Agonía

  A hermitage-style church, today a 19th-century architectural gem.

• Museo de Guanacaste

  Free admission, small, in Liberia's old military barracks (1940), once the Comandancia de Plaza and the city jail — sometimes hosts interesting exhibits by local artists.
